New 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 Unveiled: 1,064 Horsepower, 215 mph Top Speed
July 31 2024,
Chevrolet has introduced the highly anticipated 2025 Corvette ZR1, boasting the most powerful V8 engine ever produced by a North American automaker. The new model aims to challenge the world's top supercars with its impressive performance and iconic design.
Engine and Performance
At the heart of the new ZR1 is a 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged DOHC flat-plane crank V8 engine, dubbed the LT7. This powerplant produces a staggering 1,064 horsepower at 7,000 rpm and 828 lb-ft of torque at 6,000 rpm. Chevrolet estimates a top speed of over 346 km/h on the track and a quarter-mile time under 10 seconds.
The LT7 engine builds upon the architecture of the Z06's LT6 but features significant modifications for its turbocharged application. These include unique head castings, optimized valve train, and a new intake system. The engine will be hand-assembled at the Performance Build Center in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
Aerodynamics and Handling
The ZR1 offers two distinct aerodynamic packages. The standard setup includes a carbon-fibre front splitter, rocker moldings, and a small spoiler with adjustable wickers. For track enthusiasts, the optional ZTK performance package adds an aggressive rear wing, front dive planes, and suspension tuning with stiffer springs.
Chevrolet claims the carbon fibre aero package generates over 1,200 pounds of downforce at top speed. The car's chassis features Magnetic Ride dampers and Michelin performance tires, with Pilot Sport 4S as standard and Pilot Sport Cup 2 R available with the ZTK package.
Design and Customization
The ZR1 revives the iconic split rear window design, last seen on the C2-generation Corvette. This feature not only pays homage to Corvette history but also aids in heat extraction from the engine compartment.
Other design elements include a carbon fibre roof, unique aluminum wheels, and an optional carbon-fibre wheel design. The interior features ZR1-specific badging and new colour options, including a Habanero interior and Blue Stitch option.
Customers can choose from new exterior colours such as Competition Yellow, Hysteria Purple, and Sebring Orange. Additional customization options include racing stripes, brake caliper colours, and seat belt colours.
Availability and Production
The Corvette ZR1 is scheduled to enter production in 2025 at General Motors' Bowling Green Assembly Plant in Kentucky. It will join the existing Corvette lineup, which includes the Stingray, Z06, and E-Ray models. Pricing details will be announced closer to the production date.
Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, stated, "Corvette ZR1 is about pushing the envelope with raw power and cutting-edge innovation. From Stingray, to Z06, E-Ray, and now ZR1, the Corvette family continues to elevate with each new iteration — and challenge the best in the world."
As Chevrolet's new flagship performance model, the 2025 Corvette ZR1 aims to set new benchmarks in the supercar segment with its combination of power, technology, and iconic design elements.
